How to convert a VCF file to Excel

  1. Drop your .vcf file above. You can add several at once; they are merged into one list.
  2. Check the preview: one row per contact, with first and last name, company, job title, every phone and email with its label (mobile, home, work…), addresses, birthday, groups and notes.
  3. Pick Excel (.xlsx) and click Download. Phone numbers are saved as text, so the + and leading zeros stay intact.

Need to move the contacts to another account? Choose Google Contacts CSV or Outlook CSV: the columns already have the names those services expect when you import.

How to convert Excel contacts to VCF

  1. Open the Excel → VCF tab and drop your .xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv file, or paste the cells straight from Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. Columns are matched automatically (Name, First name, Mobile, Phone, Email, Company, Address…, also in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Indonesian). Change any that are wrong.
  3. If your numbers have no country code, type it once (for example +44) and it is added to every number.
  4. Download one .vcf with all contacts, or a ZIP with one .vcf per person.

Several numbers or emails in one cell, separated by commas, semicolons or slashes, become separate entries in the contact.

Why Excel cannot open a VCF file properly

A .vcf (vCard) is a text file with one block per contact, where each phone, email and address is a separate line with its own labels. Excel reads it as plain text and puts everything in a single column. This converter reads the vCard structure, including the formats used by older Android phones (vCard 2.1 with encoded accents) and iPhone custom labels, and gives every field its own column.

Private by design

Address books are personal data. Most online converters ask you to upload the file to their server. Here, the file is read by your own browser and the result is created on your device: nothing is uploaded, stored or logged. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and VCF ↔ CSV conversions keep working.

Limitations

  • Contact photos are not exported to Excel, and photos cannot be added from a spreadsheet.
  • Uncommon fields such as social profiles, anniversaries or custom app fields are not exported.
  • The Outlook CSV uses English column names; a non-English Outlook may ask you to match the fields when importing.
  • The maximum size depends on your device’s memory. On a phone, files with a few thousand contacts work best.

Frequently asked questions

Is this VCF converter really free?

Yes. It is 100% free, with no limit on the number of contacts or conversions, no account and no sign-up. There is no paid version and no feature is locked.

Are my contacts uploaded to a server?

No. Your file is read and converted inside your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent anywhere. The only download is a public spreadsheet library, and only when you open or create an Excel file.

How do I open a VCF file in Excel?

Excel cannot read .vcf files directly. Drop the .vcf here, check the preview and download it as .xlsx: you get one row per contact with name, phones, emails, addresses, company and notes in separate columns.

How do I convert an Excel contact list to VCF?

Open the Excel → VCF tab, drop your .xlsx or .csv file (or paste the cells), check which column is the name, phone and email, and download the .vcf. You can then import it into iPhone, Android, Google Contacts or Outlook.

Why do phone numbers lose the + or the leading zero?

Excel turns numbers like 0612345678 into 612345678 when it opens a CSV. The .xlsx export stores phone numbers as text, so the + and leading zeros are kept. If your spreadsheet already lost them, use the country code option to add the prefix back.

Which vCard version should I choose?

vCard 3.0 works with iPhone, Android, Google Contacts, Outlook and most apps. Choose 2.1 only for old phones or car systems that do not accept 3.0.

Is there a limit on file size?

There is no quota. The practical limit is your device’s memory: tens of thousands of contacts convert in seconds on a computer. Contact photos are not exported to Excel.
